Hector Neris Nails Down Fourth Save At St. Louis
4 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies relief pitcher Hector Neris pitched a scoreless ninth inning to preserve a one-run lead after starter Zack Wheeler pitched eight brilliant innings on Monday against the St. Louis Cardinals. Neris allowed a hit, but needed just 11 pitches to breeze through the inning and collect save No. 4. There was speculation before the season about who would get saves in Philly, but Archie Bradley is on the injured list and Jose Alvarado has been used in a fireman role while also dealing with injuries. Neris, meanwhile, has been excellent, allowing just two runs through 9 2/3 innings with 11 strikeouts. Neris should be rostered in all leagues that value saves.
