Jose Alvarado Rejoins Phillies After COVID Layoff
4 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies relief pitcher Jose Alvarado is back with the team after missing six games on the COVID injured list. Alvarado was deemed a close contact of someone who tested positive and has spent the last week quarantining in his home while training with an exercise bike, a net to pitch into, and his dad who acted as Alvarado's temporary pitching coach. Alvarado dealt with weight problems after the COVID shutdown last season which was part of the reason the Rays let him go after a rough year. It sounds like Alvarado handled things differently this time around and should reassume his setup role in the Philly bullpen. Hector Neris will get the save chances, but Alvarado is a high-strikeout arm who can pitch to good ratios while picking up the occasional save. He should be rostered in any league that values holds, but there's deep-league value here as well.
