Sam Coonrod Earns First Save For Phillies
4 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies relief pitcher Sam Coonrod pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his first save of the season Monday against the Brewers. Coonrod allowed two hits, but managed to preserve the one-run lead he was entrusted with. Hector Neris has been the primary closer for the Phillies and he may not have been available after recording a five-out save on Monday. Neris is still the reliever to roster in the Philly pen but it's encouraging to see Coonrod be trusted in higher leverage situations than when the season started. The right-hander has a 2.70 ERA and a 0.75 WHIP with a sterling .170 batting average against. He's worked his way into the fantasy baseball conversation in leagues that reward holds.
