Kevin Pillar Remains Red Hot In May
4 years agoNew York Mets outfielder Kevin Pillar went 1-for-4 with a two-run triple in the Mets' 7-1 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday. Pillar has served as the primary centerfield with Brandon Nimmo (finger) on the 10-day injured list. With Wednesday's performance, Pillar is now hitting .341/.357/.585 with two home runs and seven RBI in May over 41 at-bats. Given regular playing time, Pillar has, arguably, been the Mets' hottest hitter this month. With Nimmo likely to go on a rehab assignment before he returns from the IL, Pillar should serve as the Mets' centerfielder for their upcoming weekend series against the Tampa Bay Rays. Upon Nimmo's return, it will be hard for the Mets to sit Pillar's bat. That said, given the Mets' depth in the outfield, everyday at-bats may be tough to come by for Pillar, despite this hot streak. While Pillar is getting regular playing time he should be active in deeper and NL-only fantasy formats. Once Nimmo returns, fantasy managers would be wise to keep him on their rosters as a handcuff in the event the Mets suffer another injury to a starting outfielder during the course of the season. Pillar has shown what he can bring to the table when given regular playing time.
