Jose Abreu Won't Play In Game 2 Of Doubleheader
4 years agoChicago White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu (knee/face) is absent from the lineup in Game 2 of Friday's doubleheader versus the Kansas City Royals. Abreu had a scary collision with Hunter Dozier in Game 1 and left in the top of the second inning with a facial contusion and laceration. He also suffered a bruised left knee in the process. Manager Tony La Russa said that Abreu wanted to play in the second game tonight, but that the club will wait until tomorrow to make a decision on his status. Abreu will be replaced by first baseman/outfielder Andrew Vaughn. Vaughn will play first base and bat sixth versus Jakob Junis. Vaughn hasn't shown much power in his rookie campaign, but he has started to warm up and is hitting .263 with one home run, six RBI on the season. Abreu remains day-to-day.
