Cole Irvin Effective In No-Decision Versus Twins
3 years agoOakland Athletics starting pitcher Cole Irvin allowed one run in 6 2/3 innings pitched but had to settle for a no-decision Saturday at Minnesota. Irvin only struck out two in the contest, but was able to rely on soft contact and quality defense behind him to pitch into the seventh inning and depart in line for a win. That didn't happen as the A's bullpen couldn't hold the lead, but it was an encouraging start for the 27-year-old lefty. Irvin has been good this season as evidenced by his 3.02 ERA, but he's not a must-add pitcher in fantasy. He's inducing swinging strikes less than 10 percent of the time and his 4.31 xFIP implies some regression may be on its way. He's got a tough matchup with Houston lined up in his next outing.
