Daniel Bard Takes The Loss On Tuesday
4 years agoColorado Rockies right-hander Daniel Bard took the loss on Tuesday when he allowed one unearned run with two strikeouts over 1 1/3 innings in a 2-1 extra-innings loss to the Padres. Bard entered in the bottom of the ninth inning with the score knotted up at 1-1 and got the job done. He recorded two strikeouts and a groundout in the quick frame. He then came back out in the 10th inning with the designated runner on second base. Brian O'Grady laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Jorge Mateo to third base. Bard threw a wild pitch in the next at-bat, which allowed Mateo to score and win the game for San Diego. It was a tough-luck loss for Bard, who pitched well but was done in by the ghost runner in extra-innings. The Colorado bullpen remains a mess but Mychal Givens and Bard both figure to be in the mix for saves, although neither player is appealing for fantasy purposes.
