Whit Merrifield In The Midst Of A Cold Stretch
4 years agoKansas City Royals second baseman Whit Merrifield has endured a cold stretch over his last three games. Merrifield is 1-for-11 with three strikeouts in that span, lowering his season batting average to .250 and his OBP to .317. The veteran won't be productive as a run-scorer and base-stealer if he's not getting on base, though fortunately, there should be better days ahead. Merrifield has an unusually low .255 BABIP- his career average is .330- so this seems to be a case of some bad batted ball luck. He continues to lead the league in stolen bases and should be looked at as a top-tier second baseman in fantasy baseball. If fantasy managers are frustrated by Merrifield's recent stretch, it could present a buy-low opportunity.
