4 years agoPittsburgh Pirates pitcher Jose Soriano (elbow) is set to begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Bradenton on Thursday night. Soriano, the team's No. 25 prospect per MLB Pipeline, has been recovering from Tommy John surgery. The Pirates selected Soriano in the Rule 5 draft from the Angels, so he'll need to be on the active roster for a minimum of 90 days once activated, or the organization risks losing him to the Angels. Soriano flashed a triple-digit fastball before the surgery, which would give him some upside as a future starter. However, he's not likely to contribute in enough of a capacity to warrant picking him up this year, though dynasty fantasy managers will certainly want to keep an eye on him.--Tim Capurso
