4 years agoOakland Athletics starting pitcher Cole Irvin allowed five runs in five innings pitched with only one strikeout in a loss to the Astros on Thursday. Irvin retired six of the first seven batters he faced, but the wheels came off in the third inning when Martin Maldonado blasted a double to start a three-run frame for Houston. The number-nine hitter for the Astros wasn't done there, however, as he took Irvin deep in the fourth inning to put the visitors ahead for good. Irvin had completed six-plus innings with three or fewer runs in his four previous starts so fantasy managers should stick with the lefty despite this poor performance. He'll look to bounce back next week in a juicy matchup against Seattle.--Mike Schwarzenbach - RotoBaller
