BALLER MOVE: Add in Two-Catcher Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 5% of leagues
ANALYSIS: Jacob Stallings is a shining example of a rare trait at the catcher position: offensive consistency. Despite his team's lack of success, Stallings is well on his way to a career-season, so far hitting 14 XBH (ten doubles, four HR) and a .248/.356/.442 slash over the first 113 AB. Even though his average exit velocity is mild at 88.0 MPH, his hard hit rate remains solid at 37.2%. Producing 41.9% grounders, Stallings' BABIP of .293 is probably realistic at this point, but with his strikeout percentage down to 20.5%, his walk rate all the way up to 13.6%, and his ISO up to a career-high .195, Stallings has put together a complete offensive package in trying to carry on his success throughout 2021.
Stallings has always been a defensive asset too, but the level of well-rounded offensive reliability he now offers with expanding results has made him a fixture on the field. He won't provide strongly in any one category, but he provides a little bit of everything, which is not usually the case for catchers. If you need depth at the position or a second man in two-catcher leagues, Jacob Stallings should lead the current short list.
