J.D. Davis To Play A Few More Rehab Games At Triple-A
4 years agoNew York Mets third baseman/outfielder J.D. Davis (hand), currently on the 10-day injured list, is expected to play a few more games with Triple-A Syracuse before returning to the team. The Mets reportedly want Davis to play a string of games at first base at Triple-A so he can, presumably, play first when he returns while Pete Alonso (wrist) remains on the injured list. The logic is somewhat confusing, considering that the Mets have Dominic Smith on the roster and are starting catcher James McCann at first base, a position he has never played professionally, on Monday against the Rockies. Nonetheless, it will be a few more days before Davis returns to the Mets. Over 41 at-bats in 2021, Davis has posted a .390/.479/.610 slash line with two home runs and seven RBI. Once he returns, Davis should provide solid counting stats and could eventually gain first base eligibility to the benefit of fantasy managers.
