Carlos Estevez Buttons Up The Save For The Rockies
3 years agoColorado Rockies right-hander Carlos Estevez picked up the save on Monday when he punched out two batters to preserve a 3-2 win over the Mets. Starter Austin Gomber was rolling on Monday and pitched all the way into the bottom of the ninth inning before he ran into some trouble. He allowed a leadoff home run to Brandon Drury and a single to Patrick Mazeika before being removed from the game. Regular closer Daniel Bard was unavailable so Estevez was tasked with protecting the one-run lead. He got the job done by punching out Jonathan Villar and James McCann and getting Francisco Lindor to line out. Estevez missed three weeks from late April to mid-May with a strained middle finger but has put up solid numbers this season. He's rocking a 2.92 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and a 13:4 K/BB ratio over 12 1/3 innings (12 appearances) while converting two save chances. He could be in line for more save opportunities down the road as he's been the Rockies' most consistent reliever this season.
