4 years agoMinnesota Twins starting pitcher Michael Pineda struck out a season-high eight batters over six innings of one-run ball to earn his third victory of the season over the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday. Pineda allowed three hits and a pair of walks, including a solo home run to Trey Mancini, though he was blemish-free besides that. This was his first start back after missing one turn in the rotation due to the recovery process following a procedure on his thigh, and he brought the swing-and-miss stuff. Pineda generated 19 whiffs split nearly evenly between his fastball-slider combo. The slider continues to be a dominant pitch for the 32-year-old, as it had registered a near-40 percent whiff rate this season coming into Wednesday's outing. Pineda improved his record to 3-2 with a 2.62 ERA and a 47:12 strikeout-to-walk ratio. He's lined up to face the Orioles once again on June 1.--Tim Capurso
