4 years agoNew York Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton (quad) is expected to return from the injured list on Friday for the opening game of the series against the Detroit Tigers. Stanton has been sidelined since May 14 with a left quad strain, though he has been working out on the field recently and was finally able to run the bases in the past couple of days. The slugger was off to a strong start to the season, posting a .882 OPS with nine homers and 24 RBIs in 33 games played. Stanton is in line to return at a perfect time against a Tigers' pitching staff that has struggled this season. He owns a career .809 OPS in 15 games against them.--Tim Capurso
