Jose Alvarado Takes Blown Save, Qualifies For Win
3 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies relief pitcher Jose Alvarado was the winning pitcher in the series finale in Miami, but he allowed a run and suffered a blown save before the Phillies offense picked him up. Alvarado was all over the place in this one as he allowed three walks. That's been a common theme for Alvarado this season as he's handed out 16 free-passes in 17 innings pitched this year. He's got electric stuff including a sinker that touches 100 MPH and a wipeout slider, but he simply won't be a fantasy asset unless he gets the walks under control. Hector Neris has the ninth inning on lockdown and Archie Bradley, Sam Coonrod, and Connor Brogdon are all competing for setup work. Given Alvarado's lack of control, it wouldn't be surprising to see him in lower-leverage situations moving forward.
