3 years agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Gerrit Cole pitched eight strong innings in Wednesday's win over the Toronto Blue Jays. Cole allowed two runs on four hits while walking one with four strikeouts. The ace righty allowed a pair of solo home runs but otherwise kept the scoreboard clean, inducing a lot of weak contact against the Blue Jays hitters. Cole's fastball and slider were notably down about 200 RPMs in spin rate, though they were arguably no less effective, as he generated eight of his 15 whiffs on the slider. He also displayed his usual velocity on his fastball. Cole improved his record to 8-3 along with a 2.31 ERA, 0.85 WHIP, and a 117:12 strikeout-to-walk ratio.--Tim Capurso
