Jose Alvarado Whiffs Four Across Two Innings Wednesday
3 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies relief pitcher Jose Alvarado pitched two perfect innings with four strikeouts to earn a hold versus the Dodgers on Wednesday. Man, is it tough to not add Alvarado after an outing like this. He threw 18 of 22 pitches for strikes while pumping 100 MPH sinkers in another tease of how good he can be when he's not handing out free passes. Fantasy managers have seen his Jekyll and Hyde act before though; this is still a pitcher sporting an atrocious 20.6 percent walk rate, the highest among all qualified relievers. Alvarado won't get saves as Hector Neris has the ninth-inning role relatively secure after a vote of confidence from manager Joe Girardi. Alvarado has value in leagues that reward holds, but he's too risky to start in standard-scoring fantasy leagues.
