3 years agoTexas Rangers outfielder Joey Gallo hasn't put up the power production fantasy managers drafted him for, but he could be one of the biggest beneficiaries of MLB's new policy banning the use of foreign substances by pitchers. Gallo has always been a high-power, high-strikeout hitter; that much hasn't changed since his spectacular 2019 season when he blasted 22 homers in just 70 games with an eye-popping .598 slugging percentage. What has changed is spin-rates on pitches as MLB has seen record-setting spin ahead of their crackdown on substances that help the baseball spin more and, by default, move more on its path to the plate. Gallo has slugged under.400 both last season and this year. If the foreign substance crackdown has it's desired effect then Gallo could see a power-binge.
