Zach Eflin Plagued By Long Ball In 2021
3 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies starting pitcher Zach Eflin came into the season with high expectations as part of the team's starting rotation. Through half the season, Eflin is 2-6 with a 4.39 ERA and has been unable to carry last year's success into 2021. The right-hander has allowed 1.39 HR/9 so far this year, which includes serving up four homers to the Giants in his most recent start. In addition to the homers, his strikeout rate is down five percent from last year while his hard-hit rate is up almost 10 percent. Needless to say, fantasy managers are frustrated with Eflin, but you should think twice before dropping him. Eflin has a 3.59 FIP, which implies he should see some luck-based correction, with his 0.80 difference between FIP and ERA being the sixth-largest gap in baseball. Bench him in tough matchups, but don't give up on the 27-year-old hurler quite yet.
