3 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Joey Lucchesi (elbow) will be heading for Tommy John surgery due to an ulnar collateral ligament tear in his left elbow. This is a rough blow for Lucchesi who will now miss the rest of the 2021 campaign and, most likely, the beginning of the 2022 season. Lucchesi had been pitching well of late, having posted an impressive 2.28 ERA, a 1.01 WHIP, to go with 29 strikeouts in 27 2/3 innings pitched over his last seven games (including five starts). Lucchesi will finish 2021, his first season with the Mets, with a 1-4 record to go with a 4.46 ERA, a 1.17 WHIP, and 41 strikeouts in 38 1/3 IP. With Lucchesi now officially gone for the season, the Mets are likely to be even more active heading into the trade deadline to try to fill the back end of their starting rotation, especially with Carlos Carrasco (hamstring) and Noah Syndergaard (elbow) still sidelined. For fantasy purposes, Lucchesi can be dropped in all formats.--Nick Ritrivi - RotoBaller
