Victor Caratini Comes Through With Heroics Again
3 years agoSan Diego Padres catcher Victor Caratini went 1-for-2 with a home run, walk and two RBI Wednesday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Batting with the game tied in the seventh frame, Caratini smoked a solo job off starter Trevor Bauer to temporarily put the Friars ahead. He provided a sacrifice fly an inning later to help secure the sweep. Despite just a .223/.322/.376 slash, Caratini continues coming up with clutch hits and has been a prescient offseason acquisition as presumed starter Austin Nola (knee) has appeared in just 18 games. Overall, he compiled six homers, two steals and 47 runs-plus-RBI in 183 plate appearances. With Nola expected out until late-July, Caratini is a palatable backstop option in deeper and two-catcher formats for modest counting stats without a rock-bottom average.
