BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 26% of leagues
ANALYSIS: From the surface, it looks as if Joey Votto is having his worst season in fifteen years with the Cincinnati Reds, although his heavily decorated career sets a pretty high standard. With eight home runs and a .241/.328/.426 slash in 162 AB, Votto may be distanced from his MVP-candidate days, but things have been looking up since he resolved the issues that landed him on the IL.
Votto says he was inspired by teammate Jonathan India to play with more passion, and maybe that sparked his offensive uptick this month. After a brief and unpleasant showing in May, Votto has bounced back in 56 June AB with three home runs, his first stolen base since 2019, and a .268/.369/.429 slash (as of Saturday afternoon), while also scoring nine runs with 14 batted in for the Reds offense that ranks top ten in the MLB in runs, homers, and OPS. He is back to walking at an elite rate, and though his strikeout rate is still high, his 39.5% hard contact and 7.9% soft contact on batted balls for this month will go a long way towards continued accrual of XBH. For what we know he is capable of when reaching base for a run-scoring team even in bad times, Joey Votto is worth acquiring in moderate-sized leagues.
