Sonny Gray Set To Make Rehab Start Saturday
3 years agoCincinnati Reds starting pitcher Sonny Gray (groin) started his rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville on Saturday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reported. The 31-year-old right-hander was unable to make his originally scheduled start on Thursday after waking up with tightness in his back, but he appears to be back on track with his appearance on Saturday. Before missing most of the month of June with a groin strain, Gray posted a 3.42 ERA with 65 strikeouts through 50 innings pitched. With Gray sidelined, Cincinnati has tabbed rookie right-hander Tony Santillan to take the mound in his place against the San Diego Padres next week. Santillan has pitched three games at the major league level so far, going 1-1 with a 3.29 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 16 strikeouts over 13 2/3 innings pitched.
