Hector Santiago Suspended 10 Games For Foreign Substance
3 years agoSeattle Mariners relief pitcher Hector Santiago was handed a 10-game suspension Tuesday for having a foreign substance in his glove. Santiago was ejected from Sunday's game against the Chicago White Sox in the fifth inning and later claimed to have been acting in accordance with the new foreign substance guidelines, but clearly the league disagrees. Santiago, the first player to be suspended since the guidelines were implemented, is appealing the ruling, and his suspension will be put on hold until that process is completed. If the suspension is upheld, Seattle would have to play a man down for the duration of the ten games. Santiago is not on many fantasy rosters, but managers will want to stay tuned for details, if only to see how the process plays out for future infractions.
