3 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies starting pitcher Vince Velasquez allowed just two hits in seven shutout innings to post his best start this season in a win versus the Marlins on Tuesday. Velasquez picked up seven strikeouts and didn't walk a batter as he improved to 3-2 on the season with a 4.22 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and 71 strikeouts across 64 innings. The right-hander badly needed a start like this as he failed to pitch past the fifth inning in his previous five outings. He walks too many batters as his 12.2 percent walk rate is still much too high, even after this strong start where he posted zero walks. Velasquez is not recommended as a streaming option in a home start versus a good San Diego lineup on Sunday.--Mike Schwarzenbach - RotoBaller
