Jose Alvarado Allows Three Runs To Blow Save Friday
3 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies relief pitcher Jose Alvarado allowed three runs in 2/3 of an inning to blow a save versus the Padres on Friday. The hard-throwing righty was called on for a four-out save; he got out of the eighth inning, but ran into trouble in the ninth starting with, as usual, a leadoff walk. Alvarado has a whopping 25 walks in only 30 1/3 innings pitched and his 18.4 percent walk rate is the highest among qualified relievers. A big strikeout rate helps, but Alvarado will always be prone to these blow-up outings if he keeps handing out free passes. He remains the best Phillies reliever to roster in fantasy thanks to his strikeout potential, but it's anyone guess who gets the next save for this beleaguered bullpen.
