Yency Almonte Implodes On Friday
3 years agoColorado Rockies reliever Yency Almonte was destroyed on Friday night when he allowed six runs (five earned) on three hits with two walks and two strikeouts in a 9-3 loss to the Cardinals. The Rockies held a narrow 3-2 lead heading into the ninth inning before reliever Justin Lawrence blew the save, prompting the game to go to extra-innings. Almonte entered in the 10th inning with the score knotted up at 3-3 and completely melted down. He got two quick outs with a walk wedged between before serving up back-to-back singles and another walk. Harrison Bader then cracked a grand slam, which put the game out of reach for Colorado. The 27-year-old Almonte now owns a hideous 11.52 ERA, 2.04 WHIP, and 23:21 K/BB ratio over 25 innings this year. He'll likely get sent down to minors to work on his stuff.
