Jeff McNeil Dropped In Order, Picks Up Two Hits
3 years agoNew York Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil went 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored in the Mets 8-3 win over the Yankees, after being dropped to eighth in the batting order on Saturday. McNeil has been struggling since returning from the 10-day injured list back on June 21. McNeil is just 9-for-42 (.214) since his return, with no home runs and just two RBI. He had primarily been hitting leadoff for the Mets since his return. Manager Luis Rojas' decision to drop McNeil in the batting order on Saturday may have been an attempt to give McNeil a chance to not press as much at the plate, especially with the Mets being able to utilize a designated hitter at Yankee Stadium. It is unlikely McNeil will remain in the lower third of the order once he gets his bat going, though his fantasy appeal does take a slight hit while he remains there. On the season, McNeil is slashing a disappointing .234/.321/.326 with three home runs and 10 RBI over 141 at-bats. Fantasy managers may wish to keep McNeil inactive until such time he starts hitting with the consistency we have come to expect from him. Hopefully, his performance on Saturday gets McNeil going in the right direction.
