Whit Merrifield Goes Hitless In Defeat
3 years agoKansas City Royals second baseman/outfielder Whit Merrifield went 0-for-5 with a strikeout in a 5-2 loss to the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday. Merrifield and the Royals couldn't get much done against Reds starter Sonny Gray as they mustered just two runs on eight hits as a team. Merrifield has been slumping over his last seven games, going just 4-for-27 (.148/.258/.185) with a stolen base. Overall he's been a solid fantasy contributor, though, with his .276 batting average and .745 OPS this year. He's also got eight home runs, 45 RBI, 23 stolen bases, and 50 runs scored over 341 at-bats. He would likely be an All-Star representative were it not for Jose Altuve and Marcus Semien's amazing first halves. He'll look to break out of this slump starting on Thursday when Kansas City heads to Cleveland for the final four-game series before the All-Star break.
