Paul Goldschmidt Off To Strong Start In July
3 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt has had somewhat of a down season at the plate so far, hitting .261 with a .329 on-base percentage, 12 home runs and five stolen bases in 368 plate appearances this season. However, he's been hitting the ball much better of late. Since the calendar turned to July, the veteran is batting .344 with a .417 on-base percentage over his last 36 plate appearances. He's also collected a home run and six RBI over that span. It's a small sample size to be sure, but it could be the start of a turnaround for Goldschmidt. His .376 xwOBA is significantly higher than his .327 wOBA. What's more, the slugger's .305 BABIP is significantly lower than his career .346 mark. Now might be the time to swing a trade for Goldschmidt if your team is in need of reinforcements at first base. More production might be coming.
