Pirates Pick Henry Davis First Overall In Amateur Draft
3 years agoThe Pittsburgh Pirates selected Louisville catcher Henry Davis first overall in the 2021 amateur draft. He was ranked by Rotoballer as the fifth-best talent available. Davis shows the ability to hit for both power and average due to his above-average bat-to-ball skills. However, he is a little stiff and lacks projection due to his already-mature frame. Despite a powerful arm, scouts are split on his ability to stick behind the plate but his bat should play just about anywhere on the diamond. Once he signs, Davis will likely slot in as the second-best prospect in the Pirates system right behind second baseman Nick Gonzales. Adley Rutschman was another college catcher drafted first overall just two years ago by the Orioles.
