3 years agoThe Boston Red Sox selected high school shortstop Marcelo Mayer with the fourth overall selection in the 2021 amateur draft. Rotoballer had the 18-year-old California native ranked as the third-best option behind fellow prep shortstop Jordan Lawlar and college right-hander Jack Leiter. Mayer is known for having an advanced bat but lacks the foot speed to be an impact player on the base paths. His power output is also currently below-average but he has a projectable frame and could eventually have average to above-average pop. Once he signs, Mayer will battle both Triston Casas and Jarren Duran for the title of the top prospect in the system.--Marc Hulet - RotoBaller
