Travis Etienne Jr. Expected To Be Jaguars Primary Receiving Back
3 years agoJacksonville Jaguars rookie running back Travis Etienne Jr. was selected 25th overall in this year's NFL draft after a prolific college career at Clemson in which he displayed elite pass-catching ability out of the backfield. Etienne projects to be involved heavily in the Jaguars passing game in 2021, possibly even in a hybrid role where he works as both a running back and a wide receiver. SI's John Shipley believes that "Etienne will be the team's primary pass-catcher at the position," and he also noted that the rookie "has already spent some time cross-training as a wide receiver." Based on what we saw from Etienne at Clemson, Shipley's take here doesn't come as a surprise. In PPR leagues, Etienne could have solid fantasy value based on receiving production alone, but it's also fair to expect that he'll carry the ball around 125 times, further adding to his fantasy appeal. Etienne is currently going off the board around pick 60 in PPR formats along with teammate James Robinson. Etienne projects as an RB3 with RB2 upside in 2021, and his development as a pass-blocker in training camp will be a key storyline to watch.
