3 years agoThe Toronto Maple Leafs pulled off a surprise deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday. The club acquired forward Jared McCann in exchange for prospect Filip Hallander and a seventh-round draft pick. The decision to trade the breakout center is somewhat surprising but so too is the light return for his services. Last season, the 24-year-old scored 14 goals and recorded 32 points in 43 games. He averaged just 14 minutes of ice time per game with Pittsburgh and could break out further with an expanded role -- possibly as a second-line center. There had been debate whether Pittsburgh would protect McCann from the Seattle Kraken in the upcoming expansion draft.--Marc Hulet - RotoBaller
