3 years agoChicago White Sox designated hitter Yermin Mercedes announced on his personal Instagram that he's retiring from baseball. "I am stepping away from baseball for a while, and it's over." If this is the end of his career, the 28-year-old finished his career slashing .271/.328/.404 with seven home runs, 37 RBI, and 26 runs scored across 262 plate appearances in 2021. Mercedes was demoted to Triple-A Charlotte in early July and played well, slashing .309/.377/.655 with four homers and 10 RBI. The White Sox said they are aware of Yermín Mercedes' Instagram post, but have not received any official notice from Mercedes of his plans and that he's still part of the active roster at Class AAA Charlotte, per James Fegan of the Athletic. Mercedes announced he was stepping away from baseball right after being pinch-hit for in the sixth inning. Stay tuned for any further updates.--Brad Camara - RotoBaller
