3 years agoVeteran goaltender Mike Smith signed a two-year extension with the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday. The length of the deal is somewhat surprising considering that he'll turn 40 years old during the 2021-22 season and may only be good for 40 games this season. Still, he had a strong showing in 2020-21 with a .923 save percentage and 2.31 GAA. The club also has Mikko Koskinen signed for the upcoming season at the cost of $4.5 million, although he had a disappointing year and limited upside at the age of 32. Of the two goalies, Smith has the higher fantasy value although he comes with significant risk given his age. The club's defensive core has also taken a hit in free agency with the loss of Adam Larsson to Seattle and likely more to come. --Marc Hulet - RotoBaller
