Twins Acquire Joe Ryan, Drew Strotman From Rays
3 years agoThe Minnesota Twins have acquired right-handed pitchers Joe Ryan and Drew Strotman from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for designated hitter Nelson Cruz and left-handed pitcher Calvin Faucher. Cruz is batting .294/.370/.537 with 19 home runs during his time in Minnesota this season. Tampa Bay received a fairly solid haul for a 41-year-old rental bat. The Twins receive the No. 10 prospect (Ryan) and No. 17 (Strotman) in the Rays farm system. Both pitchers are having successful seasons in Triple-A and should be able to contribute to the Twins big league roster soon. Ryan is currently playing with Team USA in the Olympic Tournament. The loss of Cruz will likely mean more appearances in the DH spot for slugger Miguel Sano. He has been dreadful at the plate this season. Possibly, more at-bats gives him a slight boost in fantasy value, but he's basically an all-or-nothing power bat.
