3 years agoZach Werenski signed a six-year extension late on Thursday night with Columbus. This keeps him as a member of the Blue Jackets until 2028. The defenseman is one of the last players left over from the first John Davidson era. Columbus had a high priority in securing Werenski after they traded Seth Jones to the Chicago Blackhawks. The new contract includes a no-move clause from years 2-5 and a modified no-trade clause in year 6. Werenski has been a consistent fantasy producer in his career. That includes four double-digit goal seasons and three 40+ point campaigns. His ice time was already over 24 minutes a game last season. That number could go well over 25 this year. This should translate into more points, more shots, and peripherals. At least for the short term, Werenski should be considered an upgrade.--Chris Wassel - RotoBaller
