Jon Gray Whiffs Nine In Loss To The Astros
3 years agoColorado Rockies starting pitcher Jon Gray took the loss on Tuesday when he surrendered four runs on six hits with two walks and nine strikeouts over 4 1/3 innings in a 5-0 loss to the Astros. Gray held the Astros down over the first three innings of the ball game before they broke through with three runs courtesy of Chas McCormick and Taylor Jones. Michael Brantley tacked on the fourth run against Gray in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI double and that would end the 29-year-old's day on the bump. Colorado couldn't score any runs on Tuesday so Gray would have taken the loss even if he gave up just one run. On the bright side, he punched out nine batters, the second-highest mark of the season. He now owns a 3.85 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, and 110:46 K/BB ratio over 114 2/3 innings (21 starts). He gets another tough draw in his next turn when the Rockies visit the Giants.
