3 years agoJacksonville Jaguars star rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence is still in real competition with Gardner Minshew II for the team's starting quarterback job. Jaguars first-year head coach, Urban Meyer, had this to say when he was asked about a Week 1 starter — "it's an open competition between QBs Trevor Lawrence and Gardner Minshew to start the season opener against Houston." Meyer has split first-team reps between Lawrence and Minshew pretty evenly throughout camp, so this isn't just lip service. However, Lawrence is by far the superior talent, and Meyer is at risk of upsetting just about everyone invested in the team if he does go with Minshew to start the year. Lawrence still projects as a high-end QB2 and the team's Week 1 starter, but this will be a situation to monitor going forward.--Casey Kamholz
