3 years agoBoston Red Sox utility player Marwin Gonzalez was designated for assignment on Friday ahead of the team's three-game homestand against the Baltimore Orioles. The move corresponds with the Red Sox activating trade deadline acquisition Kyle Schwarber from the injured list. Gonzalez missed a chunk of time after the All-Star break with a hamstring injury. The 32-year-old switch-hitter was defensively sound for Boston when healthy but didn't bring much to the fantasy table on the offensive side of things, hitting just .202/.281/.285 with two home runs, 20 RBI, three stolen bases, and 25 runs scored on 49 hits this season.--Chelena Goldman
