Tyler Gilbert Throws No-Hitter In First Career Start
3 years agoArizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Tyler Gilbert threw a no-hitter against the Padres in a 7-0 win on Saturday night. Making his first career start, Gilbert allowed three walks while striking out five over nine innings of work to toss just the third no-hitter in Arizona Diamondbacks history. Gilbert has been utilized as primarily a reliever over the past several seasons in the minors, but this year at Triple-A Reno he's been used as a starter where he's gone 5-2 with a 3.44 ERA, 1.242 WHIP and 22.8 percent strikeout rate. He could be an interesting option in deeper formats going forward.
