3 years agoFew expected A.J. Allmendinger to win the Verizon 200 on Sunday. However, circumstances, a crazy curbing issue on Turn 6, and chaotic driving led to one unexpected result. Almendinger was able to go from seventh to take the checkered flag. He held off Ryan Blaney, Kyle Larson, and Chase Elliott. Allmendinger's experience and patience around the "ROVAL" allowed him to stay upright and take advantage of the conditions as they evolved. The jack of all trades road specialist led the final two laps of the 95 that mattered. Yes, the race had a total of 13 laps in overtime because of several wrecks and near wrecks. Allmendinger netted his first victory of the 2021 season and a victory that will lead to plenty of questions. --Chris Wassel - RotoBaller
