3 years agoWashington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera has made it clear that he wants running back Antonio Gibson to take that next step heading into his sophomore season. After battling a nagging turf toe injury last year, Gibson struggled with his explosiveness and ability to make cuts to turn up the field. Now that he is fully healthy, there are lofty expectations for the 23-year-old. Team reporter Zach Selby says that Rivera "wants to see continued growth. He doesn't want to see three really good runs and then one that isn't as great." After being used mostly as a receiver in college, the former Memphis standout was used almost exclusively as a runner in his rookie season. J.D. McKissic took most of the receiving work out of the backfield, while Gibson handled the bulk of the rushing attempts. This is likely because Rivera wanted his rookie running back to get more comfortable as a ball-carrier, as his receiving ability was already polished. With a projected expanded role in the passing game and improvements as a runner, the year two breakout candidate has an extremely high ceiling. He is a great RB2 target with clear RB1 upside.--Tommy Adamopoulos - RotoBaller
