Antonio Gibson To Play McCaffrey-Esque Role?
3 years agoWhen addressing the media on Tuesday, Washington Football Team quarterback Kyle Allen made some interesting comments that could send fantasy managers into a frenzy. Allen, who was a former teammate of Christian McCaffrey, mentioned that Washington is "trying to push Antonio Gibson into a similar role." Head coach Ron Rivera and offensive coordinator Scott Turner were in Carolina when McCaffrey had his historical 2019 campaign, so their desire to use Gibson in a similar role shouldn't be a surprise. If this were to happen, the sophomore's passing game usage would need to skyrocket. With J.D. McKissic on the roster, it is hard to see that type of role considering the type of usage he had last year. He was their primary third-down back and had a massive 110 targets. Nonetheless, even if Gibson were to see around 70 targets, he could potentially put up RB1 numbers considering he should handle the bulk of carries. He is a strong RB2 in fantasy, regardless of the presence of McKissic. The "McCaffrey-Esque" role could potentially just mean the type of usage, not necessarily the volume.
