3 years agoNew York Mets outfielder Dominic Smith went 0-for-5 with a run scored in the Mets 6-2 win over the San Francisco Giants in 12 innings on Wednesday. Smith had been hot earlier in the month of August, but he has recently hit a bit of a slide. Over his last seven games, Smith has no extra-base hits and is slashing just .125/.154/.125 with only two RBI and two runs scored (24 at-bats). Overall, it has been a disappointing season for Smith who broke out in 2020 to the tune of a .316/.377/.616 slash line, 10 home runs, 42 RBI, 0.993 OPS, and 1.7 WAR. In 2021, Smith is batting just .249/.310/.373 over 389 at-bats, with 11 HR and 52 RBI. With a pre-season ADP of 91, Smith has greatly underperformed fantasy manager expectations of a 30-plus HR and 80-90 RBI season. Smith can likely be dropped in shallow redraft formats if more attractive outfield options are on the waiver wire, particularly with the Mets offense struggling, limiting his RBI and run total potential.--Nick Ritrivi - RotoBaller
