BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Fantasy Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 46% of leagues
ANALYSIS: New York Yankees starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery is back in the rotation after missing time on the covid-IL and fantasy managers are slow to re-add the 28-year-old lefty. Montgomery gave up three runs in 4 2/3 innings in his first start back, but before catching covid, he was in the middle of a career year. His record is only 4-5, but Montgomery has a 3.77 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP while averaging over a strikeout-per-inning.
A look under the hood backs up his newfound success. Montgomery has a 3.54 FIP and a 3.95 xFIP, suggesting his career-best ERA is sustainable. His strikeout and walk rates are right around league average, but he's generating swinging strikes at a solid 13.5 percent rate so there's potential for even more strikeouts moving forward. With all the pitching injuries the Yankees have endured, Montgomery has stepped up as the team's number-three starter. New York will lean on him down the stretch and he'll throw a good amount of innings which should equate to plenty of wins backed by a strong lineup. Given the dearth of starting pitching in fantasy, Montgomery's rostership should be doubled.
