3 years agoNew England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones had his best practice as a pro on Wednesday, as he completed 18 straight passes and finished 24-of-28 overall in joint drills with the New York Giants. The rookie has been impressive during preseason action, going 13-of-19 for 87 yards against the Washington Football Team, and 13-of-19 for 146 yards against the Philadelphia Eagles. He has now been given a massive opportunity to show what he can do with Cam Newton sidelined for the next five days because of COVID-19 protocols, as the practice reps with the starters on offense and final preseason game will determine his role to start the season. Newton still seems to be the favorite to begin the year as the starting quarterback, but Jones figures to remain in the mix and potentially take over at some point. It will be hard for the New England coaching staff to keep the former Alabama star on the bench if Newton performs poorly, which he has shown to do in the past. Even if Jones takes over as starter, he would be at best a low-end QB2.--Tommy Adamopoulos - RotoBaller
