3 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals relief pitcher Giovanny Gallegos earned the save, his third of the season, in Monday's 3-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds. Alex Reyes had been the Cardinals closer all season, but after a rough stretch, the team said they would be "reevaluating" their ninth inning role, and Gallegos was the one to get the first shot. He should be considered the favorite for saves in the St. Louis bullpen, at least in the short term. The team likely wants Reyes to get some lower leverage innings until he gets back on track, but if Gallegos pitches well, he may not cede too many save chances, as the Cardinals are in the thick of the wild card chase and can't afford to "try things out" in the ninth inning.--David A Marcillo - RotoBaller
